Harrie Samaras

Harrie serves as a full-time arbitrator, mediator and dispute resolution/prevention neutral in U.S. and international matters.  Her practice focuses on complex commercial cases particularly involving intellectual property (IP) and business/technology issues.  Harrie has served as an arbitrator for and/or conducted arbitrations under the rules of various ADR organizations including, AAA/ICDR, ICC, JAMS, CPR and FINRA.  She is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Harrie’s experience as an attorney in private practice focused on IP litigation and IP transactions.  As corporate counsel Harrie served as the Director, Intellectual Property Litigation for a Fortune 500 telecommunications company, handling IP litigation and ADR (e.g., mediation, arbitration) matters for the company worldwide, as well as advising engineering, business, and attorney clients about IP and contractual matters.  She also served as Vice President, Intellectual Property Legal for an international drug-delivery business unit of a pharmaceutical company where she was responsible for all facets of the business unit’s IP practice including, protecting and enforcing IP, developing IP policies and asset management strategies, licensing IP, and conducting due diligence.

Harrie is the editor and an author of the book ADR Advocacy, Strategies, and Practices (for Intellectual Property and Technology Cases), which includes chapters on the creative use of ADR in preventing and resolving disputes in IP/Technology cases, as well as chapters on how to use Early Case Assessment in resolving disputes and how to draft ADR agreements in IP/Technology cases.  She also served in various leadership roles of professional organizations including as the Chair of the Section of Dispute Resolution of the American Bar Association.  Harrie is an awardee of the Sir Francis Bacon Alternative Dispute Resolution Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (May 2019). The Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact in bringing mediation and other forms of dispute resolution to Pennsylvania.
